Jimmy, Seth, Seymour and Oscar

I haven’t been as active here on TV Kitchen lately, but for good reason: I’ve had a bunch of stuff going up elsewhere! When I left my full-time job a year ago to try my hand at freelance writing, the idea of being paid any amount of money to write about television and entertainment was high on my list of goals, so I’m thrilled to have these opportunities. Here’s what I’ve been up lately:

Review: The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Paste Magazine | February 18, 2014

Jimmy Fallon just keeps getting better in his takeover of The Tonight Show. The first host since Johnny Carson to put “Starring” before his name, Fallon is earning the title each and every night. The show is fresh, warm and funny–and already feels like it’s been on the air for years. Even though my heart will always be with Conan as a performer, Fallon’s Tonight Show is far and away off to a stronger start. Full review at Paste >

Review: Late Night with Seth Meyers

Seth Meyers is also getting better every night, but (understandably) had a lot more room to grow from his premiere. It was nice to see a few nerves break through the glossy sheen of his launch campaign, and the highlights so far have come when it feels like Meyers is just being himself. Having Fred Armisen around doesn’t hurt, either. Now if we can just get HGTV in there to do something about that set. Full review at Paste >

Closer to home, I got to spend an afternoon with Jerry’s Habima Theatre, Georgia’s only theatrical company featuring adult actors with special needs. The folks at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta are exceptionally proud of this annual event, launched in 1993 and now showcasing a cast of 40 performers. I was out of town for the opening night of their newest show, Little Shop of Horrors, but I’m looking forward to attending my first Habima show next week. Full preview at ArtsATL.com >

Is there any greater love-hate relationship than the one between TV viewers and awards shows? Thanks to Twitter, the four-hour slog of handing out statuettes gets a little easier as everyone plays Mystery Science Theater 3000 together online. I compiled a list of 10 feeds to follow for all the jokes, jabs and gossipy snark you need to get you through Oscar night. Full list at Paste >

I’ll be tweeting as well at @chrissiebmoore and contributing to the Paste live-tweet feed throughout the show. I’m also up for Best Supporting Actress. Wish me luck!
